Diane Ladd, the high-spirited and acclaimed American actress who built a brilliant career with three Academy Award nominations for her fiery performances in films like ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’, ‘Wild at Heart’, and ‘Rambling Rose’, passed away on Monday at the age of 89
The death of this great artist was confirmed by her daughter, Laura Dern, who is also an Oscar winner
In a statement sent to The Hollywood Reporter, Laura Dern described the details of her mother’s death
“My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother passed with me beside her this morning at her home in Ojai, California. She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now
Ladd, a no-nonsense Southern belle, managed throughout her career to blend a unique combination of strength, vulnerability, humor, and charm in her roles, earning three Academy Award nominations
Unique Note: In 1991, she made history with her daughter, Laura Dern, as both were simultaneously nominated for Oscars for the film ‘Rambling Rose’ (Ladd in a leading role and Dern in a supporting role)
Diane Ladd belonged to a true show business dynasty. She was married to the acclaimed actor Bruce Dern for nine years (starting in 1960) and was also a second cousin of the famous American playwright, Tennessee Williams
Ladd achieved fame in her late 30s and maintained a strong, consistent presence in both television and cinema. With her passing, Hollywood has lost one of the most passionate and influential actresses of her generation
