Sadly, the global cinema community has lost one of its popular and nostalgic figures of the 70s and 80s. Gil Gerard, the actor remembered for his iconic roles as space heroes, died Tuesday at the age of 82
According to a statement released by his wife, Janet, Gerard passed away in Georgia after a battle with a rare and viciously aggressive form of cancer. Until the last moments of his life, he was known as one of the most respected figures in the sci-fi world
Before his TV fame, Gil Gerard played roles in successful films such as Airport ’77 opposite Lee Grant. However, the turning point of his career came in 1979 with the popular series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, where he played an astronaut who wakes up in a new century after 500 years of cryogenic freezing
